Everyone is talking about the downturn in the markets and how the economy is hurting all over the place. The sad result of this fear that is running wild throughout our county is that churches are starting to see the result of financial panic. People as a rule do not give nearly enough money to their local churches, but right now, churches are seeing a decline in giving even more. Seriously people. Now is the time to step up to the plate and give as your ever able. With that said, here are some ideas for the church to consider in regards to keeping their giving coming and their people more involved at the same time.
Take advantage of the many online giving options available today for churches. Church members are quite familiar with processing payments (electrical, mortgages, car payments, medical bills…) online, why would the church not be able to use the same comfortable and convenient technology for tithes and offerings.
Online marketing for churches is something that is not understood by most church staff members, but when it comes to online giving, online “marketing” is crucial. People that respond to your options of giving online are also online in social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and so much more. Statistics show that over 20% of people in the United States are a part of some social network website. Get on the ball and take the time to learn these technologies and take advantage of communicating to your membership. If they see “you” (the church) online, they are more apt to develop a better “online” relationship with the staff and want to participate in what the church has to offer and mechanism which the church is providing such as online giving.
I have had a mobile phone that has an Operating System (like a small computer) such as Windows Mobile, iPhone and in the old days even Palm based phones. Why not take advantage of online giving through mobile payments.
More later, but this is a good start.
